Lithuania has signed a cooperation agreement with US defence giant Lockheed Martin to develop missile technologies and expand maintenance, training, and system integration capabilities, the country’s Ministry of National Defence announced on Friday.
A memorandum was signed by Deputy Defence Minister Vitalija Zumerienė and Lockheed Martin representatives, outlining plans to integrate Lithuanian companies into global supply chains, strengthen technological infrastructure, and build local expertise. The agreement also identifies areas of mutual benefit and includes Lithuanian industry and research institutions in joint projects.
“This cooperation agreement and the establishment of Lockheed Martin’s branch in Lithuania are not just symbolic steps—they create real opportunities for this defence industry leader to work more closely with Lithuanian institutions, businesses, and the scientific community,” Zumerienė said in a statement.
She added that the initiative reflects Lithuania’s openness and determination to foster growth in the defence sector, aiming to attract new investments and transition from being a buyer of military equipment to an active participant in defence technology ecosystems.
Lockheed Martin’s vice president of tactical missiles, Gaylia Campbell, said the partnership marks a new phase beyond supplying advanced weaponry. “By exploring joint industrial opportunities, we are expanding Lockheed Martin’s global network of suppliers and partners—a necessary approach to meet growing demand for our combat-proven capabilities, both domestically and abroad,” Campbell stated.
Lithuania has previously procured Lockheed Martin systems, including HIMARS rocket artillery units. The company recently established a subsidiary in Lithuania.
