Fraudsters have swindled a total of €55,000 from a Kaunas resident and a company in Tauragė, Lithuania’s Police Department reported on Wednesday.

A Tauragė-based company lost €19,000 after an unidentified individual gained access to its bank account while an employee attempted to log in to online banking. The scammer exploited the login credentials to transfer the funds.

In a separate case, a 81-year-old Kaunas man was defrauded of €36,100 after receiving calls from a Russian-speaking individual between February 4 and February 28. The scammer convinced the victim to invest in stocks, extracting the money through deception.

Preliminary investigations have been launched in both cases.
