The Lithuanian Education Council (LŠT) has approved a revised procedure for selecting its representative to the board of Lithuania’s national broadcaster LRT, the council announced on Monday.

Under the new rules, the LŠT will delegate one member to LRT’s governing board, chosen from among its own ranks. Any LŠT member may nominate candidates—including themselves—while the council may also form a commission to assess whether nominees possess the necessary competencies for the role.

Candidates must submit written consent and a free-form biographical statement. The final selection will be made by a majority vote in an open ballot during a council meeting, with the LŠT chair holding the deciding vote in case of a tie. If multiple candidates are proposed, the one with the most votes will prevail.

The next round of nominations will take place at the LŠT’s May 11 session. The move follows LRT’s governance structure, where board members are appointed by the president, parliament, public organisations, and other institutions, including the LŠT, the Bishops’ Conference, the Lithuanian Science Council, and the Lithuanian Creators’ Association.
