Two Marijampolė residents charged with brutal murder in revenge killing
The Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office has referred a criminal case to court, charging two residents of Marijampolė with an exceptionally brutal murder carried out in retaliation for past conflicts, LRT reports.
According to prosecutors, the two suspects—identified only as A. M. and S. M.—allegedly lured the victim into an apartment in June 2025, where they inflicted severe injuries. Investigators state the pair struck the victim at least once in the face and repeatedly stabbed them across the body, targeting the thighs and severing Achilles tendons, arteries, veins, and nerves. The attack was described as causing extreme physical suffering.
On the same day, one of the suspects, a woman, is accused of killing a dog by strangling it after becoming angry over the animal defecating indoors. Both suspects have admitted guilt during pretrial proceedings.
The woman faces charges for both the murder and animal cruelty, while her accomplice is charged solely with the murder. Under Lithuanian law, animal cruelty carries potential penalties ranging from community service to one year in prison. The murder charge, classified as exceptionally brutal, carries a sentence of 8 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
The case has been forwarded to the Kaunas Regional Court for trial.
