Lithuanian Speaker of the Seimas (parliament) Juozas Olekas will lead a delegation to Warsaw on Monday for a working visit, the Seimas Chancellery announced.

The delegation includes Algirdas Sysas, chair of the Budget and Finance Committee; Jaroslavas Narkevičius, chair of the State Governance and Municipalities Committee; and MP Tomas Tomilinas. The visit follows an invitation from the Marshal of the Polish Sejm.

Olekas emphasised the deep historical ties between Lithuania and Poland, calling them “our shared heritage and experience that allows us to understand each other without lengthy introductions.” He highlighted joint strategic goals, including “living in a free, secure, and prosperous Europe,” and noted both nations’ responsible approach to security and defence ahead of the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara.

A key objective of the visit is to present Lithuania’s priorities for its upcoming EU Council Presidency and discuss Poland’s political perspective on the challenges Lithuania will face in the first half of 2027. “The effectiveness of our efforts depends on broad national consensus in both countries, where parliaments play a crucial role,” Olekas said.

The delegation’s schedule includes meetings with Polish Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty and Senate Marshal Małgorzata Kidawa-Błonska. Olekas will also lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Piłsudski Square, honour victims of the 2010 Smolensk air disaster at a memorial for President Lech Kaczyński, and visit a memorial composition dedicated to Lithuanian composer M.K. Čiurlionis in Marki.

Additionally, the delegation will meet with representatives of LTG Cargo Polska, a subsidiary of Lithuanian Railways.
