The Lithuanian Bishops’ Conference has selected Ramutė Ruškytė, a legal advisor to Justice Minister Rita Tamašunienė and former judge of Lithuania’s Constitutional Court, as its representative on the governing council of the national public broadcaster LRT, LRT.lt reports.

Ruškytė, currently serving as Tamašunienė’s advisor on constitutional and administrative law, was unanimously elected by the conference’s three-member standing board last week. She will replace former ambassador to the Holy See Irėna Vaišvilaitė, who has held the position since 2020.

A career jurist, Ruškytė previously worked as a judge at Lithuania’s Supreme Administrative Court and led divisions within the Government Chancellery and the Constitutional Court. She has authored over 20 academic articles and co-written a civil law textbook. Ruškytė is also a member of the Judicial Honour Court.

The 12-member LRT council includes four appointees each from the president and parliament (two from the ruling majority, two from the opposition), with the remaining seats filled by the Lithuanian Science Council, the Lithuanian Creators’ Association, the Bishops’ Conference, and the Lithuanian Education Council. The four civic organisations will name their new representatives for six-year terms in May.
