Man dies after being struck by falling tree in Ukmergė district
A 76-year-old man was killed in a logging accident in Ukmergė district on Wednesday after a falling tree struck him, Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reports.
According to the Police Department, the incident occurred shortly after 1 pm in a forest near Bečiai village. The victim, born in 1950, was assisting in transporting a felled tree when it shifted and fatally injured him. The tree was being towed by a tractor driven by another man, born in 1951.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched for negligent homicide, which under Lithuanian law carries a penalty of up to four years in prison or arrest.
