Valdemaras Liorenšaitis has taken office as Lithuania’s new deputy agriculture minister, overseeing fisheries and land reclamation, the Agriculture Ministry announced on Wednesday.

Before his appointment, Liorenšaitis served as administration director at Kretingalė Cooperative Agricultural Company, having previously held the role of deputy administration director at the same firm. His background includes project management and systems analysis, with prior experience as head of an information centre and an IT lecturer at Klaipėda Business and Technology College. He also worked as deputy head of an information centre at Klaipėda Higher Agricultural School.

The ministry noted that Liorenšaitis is actively engaged in farming and has a strong interest in advanced and innovative agricultural technologies.

His appointment follows that of Rolandas Taraškevičius, who began work as deputy minister on Tuesday. Taraškevičius will handle the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), including negotiations on the post-2027 multiannual financial framework, as well as trade and economic diplomacy. He replaces Artūras Pekauskas, who was dismissed in January.
