Šiauliai resident fined €4,600 for illegal dumping of renovation waste
A resident of Šiauliai has been fined €4,600 for illegally dumping household and construction waste in Pakruojis district, Lithuania’s Environmental Protection Department (AAD) announced on Monday.
The case began in August last year after reports were submitted via the interactive map “Tvarkau Lietuvą” (I Clean Lithuania) about waste piles in Bagdonaičiai and Beinoraičiai villages. Environmental inspectors from Šiauliai found personal documents—including drawings, books, parcel labels, and letters—among the dumped materials, which helped trace the waste back to a renovated apartment and house in Šiauliai.
Investigators determined that the individual had transported and discarded 25 cubic metres of non-hazardous waste—including mixed construction debris, bulky waste, glass, plastic, and wood—at two separate sites in Pakruojis district. The dumped volumes were 11.5 m³ at one location and 13.56 m³ at the other.
The waste was later collected and handed over to licensed waste managers. The offender received two fines of €2,300 each for the illegal dumping.
