Lithuanian parliament considers Supreme Court judge candidate
The Lithuanian parliament on Tuesday received the candidacy of Marius Bajoras, a judge of the Lithuanian Court of Appeal, for a position on the Supreme Court of Lithuania, as reported by the national broadcaster LRT.
Bajoras, a long-serving judge specialising in civil cases, was presented by Andrius Kabišaitis, senior advisor to President Gitanas Nausėda. Kabišaitis described Bajoras as “an exceptionally professional judge with a consistent career since 2007,” noting his experience in two judicial systems.
“The candidate was unanimously recognised as one of the most suitable, receiving seven votes from the judicial selection committee,” Kabišaitis said. He added that the Permanent Commission for the Evaluation of Judicial Activity had rated Bajoras’ professional work and legal quality as “excellent.”
Bajoras, addressing parliament, stated that his experience could benefit the Supreme Court. His candidacy will now be reviewed by the Seimas Committee on Legal Affairs.
President Nausėda formally submitted Bajoras’ nomination on April 8. Prior to his judicial career, Bajoras worked as a lawyer for Lietuvos Energija (2000–2001) and the Lithuanian Children and Youth Centre (2001–2002). He later served as an assistant judge at the Supreme Administrative Court (2002–2007), a district court judge in Vilnius (2007–2014), a judge at the Regional Administrative Court (2014–2018), and has held his current position at the Court of Appeal since 2018, including a term as head of its Civil Cases Division.
