The Lithuanian parliament, the Seimas, on Tuesday swore in Vilija Targamadzė as a new member, replacing Giedrimas Jeglinskas, who resigned last week, reports BNS via LRT.

Targamadzė, a member of the centre-right Democrats’ “For Lithuania” faction, enters parliament based on her party’s electoral list. During her previous term, she served on the Education and Science Committee and expects to continue work there.

An educator by profession, Targamadzė holds a doctorate in education sciences. Before joining politics, she worked at Vilnius University and the former Vilnius Pedagogical University.

Jeglinskas announced his departure from parliament and active politics last week, citing personal reasons. He will join the Atlantic Council think tank’s network of experts and a high-level working group at the Warsaw Security Forum. Despite leaving politics, he remains a member of the Democrats.

Jeglinskas previously chaired the National Security and Defence Committee for nearly a year until the coalition government was reshuffled, excluding the Democrats.
