Member of the Seimas Domas Griškevičius of the Democratic “For Lithuania” faction has announced his candidacy for mayor of Šiauliai in the upcoming municipal elections, state news agency ELTA reports.

In a Tuesday statement on Facebook, Griškevičius thanked the local Democratic Party team for their support and trust in nominating him. “The decision to run was not made overnight—it has been developing for some time,” he said.

His campaign will prioritise open dialogue with residents, with key focuses on transparency in public procurement and greater citizen involvement in decision-making. “The past decade has been a golden era for Lithuanian municipalities and Šiauliai in terms of funding, with many important projects completed,” Griškevičius noted. “But challenges remain, especially amid shifting demographics and new labour market pressures.”

Current mayor Artūras Visockas has held the position for the past three terms. Municipal council and mayoral elections are scheduled for spring 2027.
