Fraudsters may have stolen more than €25,000 from a Šiauliai-based company by illegally accessing its email account, Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reports.
According to the Šiauliai District Chief Police Commissariat, unauthorised access to the company’s electronic mail occurred between March 31 and April 16. The fraudsters allegedly diverted €25,451 from the company’s account. A pre-trial investigation into the suspected fraud has been launched.
Police also reported a separate scam in Vilnius, where an elderly woman was tricked into handing over €4,000. On Thursday, authorities received a report from a 73-year-old woman who stated that unknown individuals, posing as police officers, called her on Wednesday around 7 PM. The scammers convinced her to withdraw and hand over the money to an unidentified woman who arrived at her home. A pre-trial investigation has been opened for the unauthorised use of a payment instrument or its data.
