The governing Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) has ruled out forming a coalition with the conservative Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) and the Liberal Movement, but remains open to all other potential partnerships, LRT.lt reports.

Following a two-hour meeting on Thursday, the party’s leadership confirmed that no coalition agreements would be pursued with the two centre-right parties. “One thing is very clear—we will not form a coalition with the conservatives and the Liberals. All other options remain on the table,” LSDP leader Mindaugas Sinkevičius told reporters.

The party stressed that a final decision on coalition partners would be made only after its upcoming congress, where a new leadership will be elected. “This is a matter of strategic importance, and we have unanimously agreed that the decision will be taken after the congress,” Sinkevičius said, adding that discussions would continue in the coming weeks.

During the meeting, Sinkevičius—who is running for re-election as party chairman—presented three potential coalition scenarios but emphasised that no binding choice had been made. Earlier this week, he had acknowledged “minimal” informal contacts with the centre-right Democrats “For Lithuania” party but denied active negotiations.

The LSDP currently holds the prime minister’s office in a coalition with the Labour Party and the Freedom Party. Any shift in alliances could reshape Lithuania’s government ahead of the 2028 parliamentary elections.
