Lithuanian prime minister to expand team with new economic and policy advisors

Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė has announced plans to expand her advisory team with new specialists, including an economic advisor, LRT reports.

Speaking during the government’s weekly session in parliament on Thursday, Ruginienė confirmed that “new people will join my team very soon,” adding that this would provide “even more opportunities and a stronger team to consult on various issues.”

She emphasised her ability to select advisors based on need, stating: “It’s good that I have the opportunity to choose what kind of advisors I need and who they should be. I have strong people in these areas, starting with ministers and their teams.”

A spokesperson for the prime minister, Ignas Algirdas Dobrovolskas, later told the Baltic News Service (BNS) that one of the new advisors would focus specifically on economic matters.

The announcement follows criticism from Liberal Movement MP Simonas Gentvilas, who questioned why Ruginienė—now six months into her term—still lacked dedicated advisors on economics and energy amid ongoing crises in both sectors. “There is an economic and energy crisis right now, but who is consulting you?” Gentvilas asked during the parliamentary session.
