Nemuno Aušra party to hold council meeting with no major decisions expected

The governing coalition’s Nemuno Aušra party will hold its council meeting on Saturday, though no “fundamental” decisions are expected, party leader Remigijus Žemaitaitis told reporters, as reported by LRT.

Žemaitaitis said the agenda would focus on preparations for upcoming municipal elections, coalition work, and reviewing progress in the ministries of Agriculture and Environment. “The goal is to wrap up June well,” he stated, adding that discussions would also assess the ruling majority’s achievements and areas needing improvement.

“No major decisions will be made,” Žemaitaitis confirmed. His comments follow recent internal debates after some faction members voted against establishing the Kapčiamiestis training ground, raising questions about the party’s future in the coalition. The leader, however, dismissed concerns about potential shifts.

Nemuno Aušra, founded in November 2023, holds 18 seats in the Seimas and is part of the three-party ruling coalition alongside the Social Democrats and the Farmers and Greens Union. The current government, led by Social Democrat Inga Ruginienė, was formed last summer after former Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas resigned amid media investigations into his business ties.

The party claims 35 branches across municipalities and re-elected Žemaitaitis as its leader last November.
