A new public opinion poll shows that 71.2% of Lithuanians continue to assess the government’s performance negatively, with no change from the previous month, LRT reports, citing data from research firm Spinter Tyrimai.

According to the survey, conducted between March 18–28, 29.4% of respondents rated the government’s work as outright negative, while 41.8% viewed it more negatively than positively. In February, these figures stood at 34.4% and 36.8%, respectively.

Only 18.4% of respondents now evaluate the government’s performance positively or mostly positively, down from 20% in February. Meanwhile, 10.4% said they were unsure or declined to answer, compared to 8.8% last month.

The poll also asked which political figure would be best suited to serve as prime minister. Former conservative Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė led with 15.3% support, followed by Liberal Movement leader Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen (7.8%) and current Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė (7.5%).

Other contenders included Remigijus Žemaitaitis of the far-right “Nemuno Aušra” party (4.9%), MEP Aurelijus Veryga of the Farmers and Greens Union (3.2%), and Tėvynės Sąjunga (Homeland Union) leader Laurynas Kasčiūnas (3%).

The survey, commissioned by news outlet Delfi, included 1,013 respondents aged 18–75 and had a margin of error of 3.1%.
