Vilnius to hold March of Life in honour of Holocaust victims
A March of Life will take place in Vilnius on Sunday to honour Holocaust victims and express solidarity with the Jewish people and the state of Israel, Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) reports.
The event, marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah), will begin at Rudninkų Square in the capital. Participants will then march along Rudninkų Street, Rotušės Square, Didžioji Street, Pilies Street, Katedros Square, and Gedimino Avenue, ending at Vinco Kudirkos Square. A commemorative ceremony and concert will follow the march.
Organisers state that similar marches will be held in over 50 cities across Europe, the United States, and South America. The event is expected to be attended by members of the Seimas (Lithuanian parliament), foreign diplomats, and representatives of the Jewish community.
During World War II, approximately six million Jews were killed in the Holocaust.
