Lithuanian prosecutors receive request to investigate Israeli student over alleged Gaza war crimes
A Lithuanian non-governmental organisation has formally asked the country’s Prosecutor General’s Office to launch a pre-trial investigation into an Israeli citizen studying in Lithuania over suspected involvement in war crimes during the Gaza conflict, LRT.lt reports.
The Hind Rajab Foundation claims the individual, enrolled at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, served in 2023–2024 with the Israeli Defense Forces’ “Vampire Empire” unit, which allegedly played a key role in the invasion of the Gaza Strip, including operations in Gaza City and Rafah. The unit’s reported area of activity overlaps with several high-profile incidents, the group states.
Among the cited events are the December 2023 attack on Palestine Square in Gaza City, the January 2024 killings of five-year-old Hind Rajab, her family, and two paramedics, the raid on the UNRWA headquarters, and the strike on Al-Shifa medical complex. The foundation argues these actions may constitute war crimes, crimes against humanity, or genocide but provides no direct evidence linking the student to the operations.
Hind Rajab gained international attention after her relatives were killed in a separate strike; paramedics attempting to reach her were later shot dead alongside the child. The Prosecutor General’s Office declined to comment, while the university has not yet responded to LRT.lt.
Under Lithuanian law, prosecutors must review the complaint within 10 days. The foundation has indicated it will appeal if no investigation is opened.
