The Lithuanian State Security Department (VSD) has reported a fresh wave of Russian information attacks against the Baltic states, including the creation of fake separatist groups on social media, LRT reports.

A recently identified group on TikTok promotes the idea of a so-called “Klaipėda People’s Republic,” echoing past Russian disinformation tactics. The VSD stated that the campaign mirrors previous operations, using AI-generated content and false historical claims to justify aggressive Russian policies.

According to the VSD, separatist agitation is a long-standing tool of the Russian regime, aimed at destabilizing other nations and expanding Moscow’s influence. Similar attempts were recorded over a decade ago, including a 2015 fake “Vilnius People’s Republic” page on Facebook.

Lithuanian prosecutors have launched a pre-trial investigation into suspected assistance to a foreign state, while the National Crisis Management Center and other agencies are monitoring the situation. The Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission has also urged TikTok to block the spread of such content.
