Man dies in fire in Klaipėda district
A man has died in a fire that broke out in a residential building in Klaipėda district, Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reported on Wednesday.
Emergency services received a call at 10:41 pm on Tuesday reporting an open-flame fire in wooden structures on Stirbių Street in Medsėdžiai village, Dovilų eldership. Firefighters confirmed that a house and an annex were engulfed in flames, according to Giedrius Vaičiulis, chief specialist at the Fire Safety and Rescue Department’s Situation Coordination Division.
The fire was extinguished shortly after midnight. At 11:53 pm, a man’s body was found at the scene. Police later confirmed the victim was a 66-year-old man whose body showed signs of burns. A pre-trial investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death.
This is the 41st fire-related fatality in Lithuania this year. Since January, the country has recorded 3,600 fires, with nearly 70 people suffering burns or smoke inhalation.
