A criminal case against an organised group accused of large-scale phone scams, unauthorised system access, and fraudulent use of electronic payment tools has been forwarded to Šiauliai District Court, prosecutors announced on Monday.

The investigation, led by Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor’s Office and conducted by Šiauliai City and District Police Commissariat, identified four suspects—three from Vilnius and one from Vilnius District—who allegedly posed as police officers in phone calls. They convinced victims to hand over cash or disclose bank card details, later collecting money and payment cards in person under false pretences.

Ten separate scam incidents were documented, resulting in seven victims and total losses of €10,040. Investigators also uncovered unauthorised possession of over 10 grams of the psychotropic substance 4-BMC (4-bromomethcathinone) by one suspect, who faces additional charges for drug-related offences.

Five victims have filed civil claims seeking compensation for financial damages. The case will now be examined by Šiaulių District Court’s Šiauliai division.
