The head of Lithuania’s Probation Service, who was reported missing after leaving home with a firearm following a domestic conflict, has turned himself in to police, LRT.lt reported on Monday.

Vilnius police confirmed that Romas Ostanavičius, director of the Lithuanian Probation Service, arrived at a police station on Monday afternoon of his own accord. Officers confirmed he was sober at the time and confiscated his weapon.

According to Ramūnas Matonis, head of the Police Department’s Communications Division, authorities received a call at 9:18 PM on Sunday reporting a domestic dispute. Ostanavičius subsequently left the residence armed with a legally owned firearm, prompting a police search.

Ostanavičius has served as director of the Probation Service since December 20, 2021, and was awarded the rank of internal service general in 2022. Police stated that further details of the incident would be clarified during the investigation.
