Soviet hammer and sickle symbol painted on Vilnius apartment building
Vilnius police are investigating after a Soviet hammer and sickle symbol was painted on the wall of a residential building in the Lithuanian capital, state news agency BNS reported on Sunday.
The graffiti, discovered on Fabijoniškių Street, also included the phrase “NE ŠALIM TARNAUK, O SAVO KLASEI” (“Don’t serve a foreign power, serve your own class”) in bright paint. Authorities received the report at 5:20 PM local time and have collected evidence for a property damage case.
The hammer and sickle was the official emblem of the Soviet Union and remains a controversial symbol in Lithuania, which regained independence from Moscow in 1990.
