Man found dead after house fire in Kaunas
A man was found dead following a house fire in Kaunas early Monday, Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reports.
The Kaunas Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 3:07 AM reporting a blaze at a residential property on Jurbarko Street. Firefighters arriving at the scene found the single-storey wooden house engulfed in flames.
At 3:35 AM, crews located a 55-year-old man inside without signs of life. A second man, aged 31, managed to escape before firefighters arrived but suffered burns and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The fire destroyed the interior of the wooden house, which had a shingle roof, while an adjacent semi-wooden storage shed was also damaged. Investigators confirmed the property had no smoke detectors installed. Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to a nearby multi-family wooden building.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
