Lithuanian authorities seize over one tonne of cocaine in major anti-drug operation
Lithuanian law enforcement has disrupted a large-scale cocaine smuggling operation, seizing over one tonne of the drug—including 800 kilograms found within Lithuania—according to a statement by the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau on Friday.
Deputy Director Saulius Briginas announced at a press conference that the operation had blocked a major narcotics shipment destined for Lithuania and other EU countries. A total of 1,020 kilograms of cocaine was confiscated: 800 kilograms in Lithuania and an additional 220 kilograms in Germany.
Briginas described the pre-trial investigation as a significant blow to organised crime and its financial networks. The seized cocaine is estimated to be worth around €15 million on the wholesale black market and €50–70 million at street-level prices.
