Lithuania’s anti-corruption agency visits Kaunas municipality over complaint
The Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT) has confirmed it visited Kaunas City Municipality on March 24 to request information as part of a preliminary investigation launched following a complaint, LRT.lt reports.
According to the agency, the procedural step was necessary to verify or refute claims made in the complaint. The investigation remains in its initial phase, with no charges filed, no suspects formally questioned, and no further details disclosed.
Kaunas municipality stated that the request—directed to its Urban Management Department—was routine. Tadas Metelionis, the administration’s director, noted that law enforcement and other institutions frequently seek additional documentation when examining complaints. “This is standard procedure, and the municipality fully cooperates to provide all required materials promptly,” he said in a written statement.
The STT cited Article 97 of Lithuania’s Code of Criminal Procedure, which grants pre-trial investigators, prosecutors, and courts the authority to demand documents or objects relevant to a criminal case from individuals or legal entities.
