Lithuania names prosecutors of the year in organised crime and traffic safety cases
Lithuania’s Prosecutor General’s Office has awarded its annual “Prosecutor of the Year” titles to Ruslanas Ušinskas and Žilvinas Generauskas for their work on high-profile organised crime and traffic safety cases, BNS reports.
Ruslanas Ušinskas, a prosecutor in Klaipėda Regional Prosecutor’s Office, was named “Regional Prosecutor of the Year” for his role in dismantling a decade-long criminal network involved in drug trafficking, human exploitation, and forced labour. The case, spanning 297 volumes of evidence, implicated 33 individuals in a cross-border operation that trafficked vulnerable Lithuanians to Ireland, where they were coerced into drug distribution under threats of violence. The ringleader allegedly laundered over €861,000 from narcotics sales.
Žilvinas Generauskas, a prosecutor in Telšiai District, received the “District Prosecutor of the Year” award for his investigation into a fatal 2023 traffic collision in Naujoji Akmenė. Using drone footage and 3D modelling, Generauskas reconstructed the crash—where a Mercedes driver struck a woman’s car, pushing it into roadside barriers—despite the defendant’s denial of guilt. The case relied on virtual evidence to prove the driver’s responsibility in the woman’s death.
The awards, now in their 12th year, recognise outstanding legal expertise and innovative investigative methods among Lithuanian prosecutors.
