Lithuanian border guards turn away 29 irregular migrants in one day
Lithuanian border guards prevented 29 irregular migrants from entering the country from Belarus over the past day, the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported on Wednesday, according to LRT.
Neither Latvian nor Polish border authorities recorded similar attempts during the same period. Since the start of the year, Lithuanian officers have blocked 111 unauthorised border crossings, compared to over 1,600 in 2025. Since the Belarus-orchestrated migration crisis began, a total of 24,600 irregular migrants have been denied entry into Lithuania.
The influx of migrants toward Eastern EU member states via Belarus started in 2021, with Western officials accusing Minsk of deliberately engineering the crisis.
