NATO fighter jet exercises to take place over northern and western Lithuania

NATO fighter jets will conduct training exercises over northern and western Lithuania on Friday, with loud, explosion-like noises expected, the Lithuanian military announced on Thursday.

The drills, scheduled for the first half of the day, will cover airspace from Šiauliai toward Klaipėda. Residents in the area may hear sonic booms as aircraft fly at supersonic speeds during the training, according to the military statement.

Spanish Air Force personnel, currently deployed at Šiauliai Air Base as part of NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission, are carrying out the mission using Eurofighter Typhoon jets.
