Judge Vytautas Mizaras appointed acting head of Lithuania’s Constitutional Court

Judge Vytautas Mizaras will temporarily lead Lithuania’s Constitutional Court starting Friday, following the end of Gintaras Goda’s term as chair, the court announced on Thursday.

Under Lithuanian law, the Seimas (parliament) appoints the permanent chair of the Constitutional Court from among its judges on the president’s nomination. President Gitanas Nausėda has indicated he already has a candidate but has not yet disclosed the name.

The court also confirmed that three new judges—Artūras Drigotas, Artūras Driukas, and Haroldas Šinkūnas—were sworn in on Thursday and have begun their duties. Meanwhile, the terms of Goda and judges Daiva Petrylaitė and Janina Stripeikienė expire on Friday.

The Constitutional Court consists of nine judges, with one-third of its membership renewed every three years.
