The Lithuanian parliament on Wednesday unanimously approved a proposal to set fixed numbers of Lithuanian troops and national defence system personnel for deployment in international missions led by NATO and the European Union, LRT reports.

The Seimas voted 92–0 in favour of the plan, which outlines deployment quotas until the end of 2027. Under the proposal, Lithuania will contribute up to 80 military and defence personnel to NATO Response Force operations, pending a decision by the North Atlantic Council.

An additional 20 troops may be assigned to EU Battle Groups, subject to approval by the EU Council, while around 125 personnel could serve in NATO and EU headquarters roles by late 2024. The largest contingent—up to 160 troops—would be allocated to the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), deployed upon request from the leading JEF nation following consultations with partners.

Lithuanian forces typically participate in such missions to enhance security, stabilise conflict zones, or strengthen allied capabilities as part of multinational operations.
