Ana Burkovskienė has taken office as Lithuania’s deputy interior minister, the Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday.

Burkovskienė will oversee civil protection, security of critical state infrastructure, cooperation between civilian and military institutions under the ministry, and the management of the State Critical Communications Network.

She previously served as an advisor to Interior Minister Vladislavas Kondratovičius. In a ministry statement, Burkovskienė said she would focus on strengthening inter-agency coordination to enhance public safety and crisis preparedness. “Civil security and defence are among the state’s top priorities today,” she noted.

Burkovskienė holds a master’s degree in European public administration and a bachelor’s in political science from Vilnius University’s Institute of International Relations and Political Science. She has completed a traineeship at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations and previously worked as a senior advisor at the Ministry of National Defence, a senior expert at Ernst & Young Baltic, and in the Customs Department’s international relations division. She has also served on the European Customs Policy Board and as an expert in the EC’s CELBET III programme.
