A court in Estonia sentenced a 37-year-old Ukrainian citizen for bringing four migrants into the country illegally, ERR reported. He will be deported after serving his sentence and barred from entering Estonia for five years.

Police arrested Oleksandr Suvorov on October 4 in Mäeküla, Järva County. Four foreign nationals who had entered the country illegally were found in his car: one Algerian citizen and three Somali citizens.

In expedited proceedings, Pärnu County Court sentenced Suvorov to one year and 10 months in prison. He must serve two months immediately. The remainder will be suspended if he commits no new intentional crime during a probation period of two and a half years.

Estonian law provides for up to three years in prison for illegally transporting a foreign national across the country’s border. The maximum penalty rises to seven years if the person is placed in a life-threatening situation or one that could seriously damage their health.
