Lithuanian border guards turned back 38 irregular migrants at the border with Belarus in the past 24 hours, LRT reported Friday, citing the State Border Guard Service.

Latvian border guards turned back 27 migrants on Thursday. Poland recorded one attempted illegal border crossing on Wednesday.

Nearly 1,900 irregular migrants have been denied entry to Lithuania so far this year. Last year, people attempted to enter the country from Belarus through unauthorised locations more than 1,600 times. The figure was 1,002 the year before.

The flow of migrants from Belarus to eastern EU member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
