Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said the country would continue working with the United States regardless of which party controls its government, LRT reported.

“We work state to state, not state to party,” Sinkevičius told parliament on Thursday. He said Lithuania would not favour any political party and would work with an administration that had the trust of the American people.

Sinkevičius said Lithuania would continue seeking visits and meetings with US administration officials. He said he would take the opportunity to make a meaningful visit to the United States if circumstances allowed.

He was commenting on the results of the US midterm elections, in which the Republican Party led by President Donald Trump suffered a heavy defeat. Democrats took control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Voters elected all 435 House members and 35 of the Senate’s 100 members.
