Lāčplēsis Day, Riga, traffic

Riga will close part of 11 November Embankment to traffic on 11 November for Lāčplēsis Day events, LSM reports. Restrictions will also affect the torchlight procession route, while some traffic controls will begin on 9 November.

From 5 p.m. until midnight on 11 November, vehicles will be barred from the embankment between Vanšu Bridge and Stone Bridge. During the closure, two-way traffic will be arranged on Pils Street between Poļu Gate and Dome Square, and on the section of Dome Square between Pils Street and Jēkaba Street.

A torchlight procession will set off from Riga Brothers’ Cemetery at 4.40 p.m. and travel to Freedom Square and 11 November Embankment. Its route will follow Varoņu, Gaujas, Miera and Brīvības streets, Brīvības Boulevard, Freedom Square and Kaļķu Street. Traffic along the route may be restricted or stopped as needed.

Bāriņu Street will be closed in both directions from 8 p.m. on 9 November until noon on 12 November, between Uzvaras Boulevard and the turnaround near Hermaņa Street. Stopping and parking will also be prohibited there. The restrictions are related to the event “Riga, touched by eternity”.

During the closure, routes for buses 4, 7, 8, 21, 25, 38, 39 and 55 will change in the Āgenskalns neighbourhood. The “Āgenskalna tirgus” and “Eduarda Smiļģa iela” stops on Bāriņu Street will be closed in both directions. Temporary stops will be set up on Mazā Nometņu Street, near No. 27.

Stopping and parking will be prohibited from 8 a.m. on 9 November until noon on 12 November on Mazā Nometņu Street between Ojāra Vācieša Street and Kokles Street, and on Hermaņa Street between Ojāra Vācieša Street and Bāriņu Street.
