Lithuania’s Supreme Court has received a request from Remigijus Jakštys, convicted of sexually molesting teenagers, to review how his sentences were combined and how time already served was counted, LRT reported.

The court has accepted Jakštys’s cassation appeal for examination but has not suspended his prison sentence, Supreme Court spokeswoman Tautvilė Merkevičiūtė told the news agency ELTA on Wednesday.

Jakštys is asking the court to overturn an August 18 ruling by the appellate court and send the case back for a new hearing, or amend the ruling. On August 18, Kaunas Regional Court rejected his lawyers’ requests to acquit him of molesting one teenager. Police detained Jakštys at the end of August and took him to prison.

According to the case file, the offences took place between 2018 and 2020. Jakštys knew the victims were 14 or 15, the file says.

Jakštys had previously been granted conditional release after Lithuania’s Constitutional Court ruled in June that a ban on conditional release for people convicted of sexual offences against minors was unconstitutional. He was later detained after the conviction in the molestation case became final.
