Early voting continued on Wednesday in the parliamentary by-election for the single-member Nalšia North constituency, LRT reported. Only voters whose declared place of residence is within the constituency are eligible to vote.

The constituency covers Ignalina District Municipality, the city of Visaginas and three polling districts in Zarasai District Municipality: Salakas, Smalvos and Turmantas. Early voting began on Tuesday and runs for three days, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the municipal buildings in Ignalina, Visaginas and Zarasai.

From November 4 to 6, voting will also be available at healthcare and social care institutions: Visaginas Hospital, Visaginas Social Services Centre, Visaginas Social Care Home, Ignalina District Municipality Health Centre, Salakas Social Care Home and Mielagėnai Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis Parish Care Home. Only voters staying at these institutions on those days may vote there, during times agreed in advance with each institution.

Election commission members will arrange home voting on November 6 and 7 for voters with disabilities, people caring for them at home, people temporarily unable to work because of illness, and voters aged 70 or older. Election day is November 8.

Eleven candidates are competing for the seat. They are Ignas Adomavičius of Nemuno Aušra, Giedrius Dainys of the Centre-Right Union, Gintautas Kindurys of the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union, Vladislavas Kondratovičius of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, Nikolajus Lebedevičius of the Lithuanian Regions Party, Maksimas Paukštė of the Freedom Party, Mėta Paulauskė of the Liberal Movement, Antanas Šakalys of the Democrats’ Union For Lithuania, Andrejus Šildiajevas of the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats, Dalia Štraupaitė of the Union of the People and Justice, and Viktoras Voroninas of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania-Christian Families Alliance.

The by-election is being held after Jevgenijus Šuklinas, a Liberal elected in the constituency, died in May.
