Estonia’s Transport Administration removed 71,749 vehicles with suspended registration entries from the traffic register, ERR reported. The vehicles had entries that had remained unchanged for at least seven years.

The agency identified 97,668 vehicles meeting the criteria on July 1. Under the Traffic Act, they were considered missing and had to be removed from the register by November 1. Many owners sought to keep their vehicles, reducing the number removed by the end of October.

Most of the vehicles removed were either missing or had been dismantled improperly years ago, the agency said. Transport Administration traffic service director Siim Sarapuu said many owners decided at the last moment to retain their vehicles. The agency warned that the increase in applications for temporary removal could mean longer processing times. Owners will receive an email once their application has been processed and the vehicle temporarily removed from the register.

After the removals, 73,211 vehicles with suspended registration entries remained in the traffic register. Of these, 56,397 belong to categories that will be subject to the motor vehicle tax from 2027.
