Rapper Reket and production duo Púr Múdd have released a joint EP, “Võõrad,” about the loss of holiness and the belief that a person’s soul is worth more than all the world’s wealth, ERR reported.

The musicians said on ERR’s programme “Hommik Anuga” that although they had met briefly before, they had not made music together until this summer. When Púr Múdd invited Reket to the studio and played him a couple of demos, he decided to try something, Oliver Rõõmus recalled. Melodies and lyrics followed that evening, he said.

Reket said he wrote the first song on his way back to his own studio and finished the second that same evening. He used the image of a snake eating its tail as a writing motif, saying it represents rebirth: if people do not break their cycles, everything starts again in one way or another.

Joonatan Siiman said the first track set the EP’s theme and tone. It includes excerpts from a 2009 sermon by pastor Rein Uuemõisa, who said that the sense of holiness had disappeared in Estonia. Rõõmus said he combined lines from three sermons and sees one of Uuemõisa’s statements as summing up the EP: “Your soul is worth more than all the world’s wealth.”

Rõõmus said people often work hard and pursue money and other things, but what matters most is within them.
