Latvia’s Economy Ministry and four subordinate institutions have moved into new offices in Riga, LSM reported. The new premises at 1 Talejas Street were formally opened on October 30.

The Consumer Rights Protection Centre, Competition Council, Latvian National Accreditation Bureau and Central Statistical Bureau have also moved into the State Office Building. The institutions have a modern workspace covering 7,369 square metres, designed to meet their respective functions and needs.

State Real Estate arranged the fit-out and move without additional funding from the state budget. It took out a loan of about 17.3 million euros for the work, which it plans to repay by selling the buildings previously used by the ministry and the other institutions. The properties at 55 Brīvības Street, 1 Lāčplēša Street and 32 Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street are expected to be put up for auction by the end of 2026.

The relocation is estimated to reduce state expenditure by 18.2 million euros over the period from 2027 to 2044. The State Office Building is Latvia’s first centralised government office building, housing several public institutions under one roof. The Foreign Ministry’s Consular Department is also due to move there in 2027.
