Lithuania’s Prosecutor General’s Office says the version of an alleged sexual assault being circulated publicly does not match the facts established so far in the investigation. LRT reported Friday that no one has been charged and investigators are examining all possible versions of events.

The investigation concerns a possible offence under Article 150(1) of Lithuania’s Criminal Code, which covers sexual assault. Investigators are establishing the circumstances and interviewing identified witnesses, prosecutors said.

The news outlet lrytas.lt reported that a 21-year-old woman who had come from another European Union country to visit her parents called a ride-hailing car after dinner with friends last weekend. She reportedly did not reach her destination and was taken to hospital. The outlet said she may have been drugged and sexually assaulted.

Lrytas.lt also reported that a driver from abroad could be suspected and had been found and detained. Vilnius police did not confirm those details. A police spokesperson said an investigation had begun and referred questions about further information to prosecutors.

Vilnius police officers are conducting the investigation under the direction of a prosecutor from the Vilnius District Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors said they could not release further details to protect the woman’s rights and the investigation.
