Vilnius police have opened a pre-trial investigation into the possible rape of a young woman, LRT reports. Police have not confirmed details reported by the news website lrytas.lt.

According to lrytas.lt, the 21-year-old had come from another European Union country to visit her parents. After having dinner with friends last weekend, she called a ride-hailing car to return to her parents but did not reach her destination. She may have been drugged and raped, the report said, and was taken to hospital.

Lrytas.lt reported that the suspected perpetrator was a ride-hailing driver from a Central Asian country who had been found and arrested. Police did not confirm that information.

Julija Samorakovskaja, head of the communications unit at the Vilnius County Police Headquarters, confirmed that a pre-trial investigation had been opened. She said police were not releasing investigative information and referred LRT to the prosecutor’s office for further details.
