Cēsis municipality has planted 30,000 tree saplings in its managed forests this autumn, while also protecting and tending young stands, LSM reported.
Pine and spruce stands covering 8.36 hectares were treated to protect the young trees from deer. The trees were sprayed with Trico, a repellent made from naturally derived substances whose smell deters animals from eating new shoots.
Work has also begun to tend young stands across 26.99 hectares. The forestry measure improves growing conditions for promising trees, reduces competition among plants and helps develop higher-quality forests.
Professional forestry service providers are carrying out the work. Forestry operations in the municipality’s forests cost 28,472.50 euros in 2026, of which 26,025.04 euros came from state and European Union support under the “Investments in sustainable forestry” scheme. Total state and EU support secured for the municipality’s forestry projects amounts to 48,289.78 euros.
