Estonia’s parliament will debate the use and misuse of health data at a plenary session starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, ERR reported. The debate was initiated by the Eesti 200 parliamentary group and has been designated a matter of significant national importance. It will be streamed on the ERR website.
Speakers will include Lise-Lotte Lääne, a sworn advocate and head of the medical and healthcare practice at law firm Sorainen in Estonia; Alar Irs, head of the heart clinic at Tartu University Hospital; Egert Belitšev, director general of the Police and Border Guard Board; and Irja Lutsar, an Eesti 200 MP.
Lutsar said thoughtful use of health data could improve the quality of treatment, advance research and support better healthcare decisions. She said people’s privacy must also be protected and misuse of the data prevented.
