Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius and other government members met European Union Council Secretary-General Thérèse Blanchet and Director-General Didier Seeuws in Vilnius on Wednesday to discuss Lithuania’s preparations for its presidency, LRT reported.

Sinkevičius presented a programme built around five priorities: strengthening security and defence, EU enlargement, economic competitiveness, internal security and preparedness for threats, and social security and societal resilience.

He said the presidency’s success would depend on results and on practical, open cooperation among countries. Sinkevičius also highlighted the General Secretariat’s role in providing expert, administrative and practical support.

Lithuania will hold the rotating presidency in the first half of 2027, taking over from Ireland and then handing it to Greece. The three countries form an 18-month presidency trio.
