Lithuania is closing registration on Wednesday for participants in its direct mayoral and municipal council elections, while starting to accept nomination documents, LRT reported.
By Tuesday evening, 18 political parties, 39 political committees and three self-nominated individuals had registered as participants in the political campaign, according to the Central Electoral Commission.
Those who have not registered, including parties, political committees and individuals, will not be able to take part in the elections. Only registered campaign participants may accept donations and incur financial obligations for campaign expenses.
The commission will accept nomination documents from parties until December 7. Political committees and candidates must submit their documents to municipal election commissions by December 17.
The direct mayoral and municipal council elections will be held on March 7, 2027. Voters will elect 60 mayors and 1,494 council members.
