A total of 28,725 people in Lithuania and abroad took this year’s Constitution exam, about 3,000 more than last year, the Justice Ministry said Monday, LRT reported.

The 20th annual exam attracted participants from Ireland, Belgium, Estonia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Finland, Ukraine and other countries. Justice Minister Rita Tamašunienė said the test assessed both legal knowledge and civic understanding.

Participants competed in several categories, including best-informed Lithuanian abroad, most active school and oldest participant. Awards will also go to students by grade, a law student or legal professional, and a member of the public. The winners will be announced soon and honoured at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace. Prizes have been established by the ministry and President Gitanas Nausėda.

Participants can view their results for the multiple-choice section in their accounts and download a digital certificate. The exam is assessed by a commission chaired by Constitutional Court Justice Stasys Šedbaras. Its members include law faculty deans from Vilnius University, Mykolas Romeris University and Vytautas Magnus University, as well as presidential adviser Andrius Kabišaitis and history teacher Tomas Vaitkūnas.

This year’s initiative marks the 100th birthday of President Valdas Adamkus, the exam’s first patron. More than 500,000 people have taken part in the civic initiative over the past two decades.
