Graphic design students have opened an exhibition inspired by a hidden archive in the library basement of the Estonian Academy of Arts. The show, titled Behind the Veil, opened on October 23 at the academy’s outdoor gallery, ERR reported.
The exhibition’s accompanying text describes an archive of ghosts and restless spirits hidden in the library basement, whose inhabitants are asking to be freed. Curator Andrew Kuus-Hill said the students had conjured 250 A3 prints, pasted them onto a billboard and, alongside the ghosts that accompany them, performed an exorcism to release the spirits.
Kuus-Hill and Ethan Anthony Read supervised the project. The participating bachelor’s students from the academy’s graphic design department were Saskia Algma, Helen Forsel, Art Kruus, Stella Maris Liiva, Deisi Anelle Poska, Anna Elisabeth Remmelg, Ann Aotäht Sarv, Ariana Sigin and Eva Ševtšenko.
Behind the Veil will remain on display at the outdoor gallery until December 24.
